Abstract:

Purpose: To quantitatively analyze central corneal thickness (CCT) in patients with primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) and primary open‑angle glaucoma (POAG), and to evaluate its correlation with severity of glaucoma. Methods: In this retrospective study, records of patients with previously diagnosed POAG or PACG at a tertiary glaucoma service were reviewed. CCT was measured by ultrasound pachymetry. Mean deviation (MD) on visual field (VF) testing was recorded for glaucoma severity determination. CCT and age‑ and sex‑adjusted CCT were compared among the study groups using Student’s t‑test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), respectively. Univariate and multivariate regression models were used for correlation of age, MD and CCT.Results: A total of 115 patients with PACG, 215 with POAG, and 100 normal controls were included with mean age of 64.1±10.4, 59.9±10.5, and 62.04±10.80 years, respectively. CCT was thicker in PACG eyes (545.5±46.1 mm) as compared to POAG eyes (531.7±37.3 mm) and controls (531.0±38.3 mm) even after age and gender adjustment (ANCOVA, P=0.05). CCT was found to decrease with increasing age only in the POAG group (b=-0.57, P=0.01). Disease severity (MD of VF) was significantly and inversely correlated with CCT in both POAG and PACG eyes (b=1.89, P=0.02; and b=1.38, P=0.04, respectively) after age and sex correction. Conclusion: PACG eyes had thicker CCT as compared to POAG and normal healthy eyes in Iranian subjects. Severity of the disease was inversely correlated with CCT in eyes with both POAG and PACG.

Statement of Problem: In Orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning one of the most important issue is an accurate anteroposterior measurement of jaw relationship. The most commonly used angular and linear measurements that have been proposed, such as ANB angle and Wit's appraisal can be inaccurate and misleading due to their dependence on various factors.Purpose: This study was aimed at establishing a new cephalometric measurement, named the m angle, to assess the sagittal jaw relationship with accuracy and reproducibility. The m angle uses 3 skeletal landmarks, point A, point B and a perpendicular line from point A to the mandibular plan.Materials and Method: One hundred and fifteen pretreatment cephalometric radiographs of orthodontic patients (mean age 16±2 years) were selected on the basic of inclusion criteria according to their skeletal and profile patterns. The patients compromised of 30 class I, 45 class II and 40 class III skeletal relationships and profile pattern, the mean and standard deviation for the new angel (b) and the previous reported angle (m) were evaluated. One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Newman- Keuls test were used for data analysis as well as, dermination of the new angle's specifity and sensitivity comparing with b angle. Results: The results obtained showed that a patient with a m angle between 16.1° and 23.9° can be considered to have a class I skeletal pattern. A more acute m angle is an indication of a class II skeletal pattern and a more obtuse m angle indicates a class III skeletal pattern. Conclusion: The new angle (m angle) has an acceptable specificity and sensitivity in determining the anteroposterior relation of jaws and thus can be used for assessing the type and severity of jaw discrepancies, besides the other diagnostic parameters.

Introduction: Determining the proper angle for inserting central venous catheter (CV line) is of great importance for decreasing the complications and increasing success rate. The present study was designed to determine the proper angle of needle insertion for internal jugular vein catheterization. Methods: In the present case series study, candidate patients for catheterization of the right internal jugular vein under guidance of ultrasonography were studied. At the time of proper placing of the catheter, photograph was taken and Auto Cad 2014 software was used to measure the angles of the needle in the sagittal and axial planes, as well as patient’s head rotation. Results: 114 patients with the mean age of 56.96±14.71 years were evaluated (68.4% male). The most common indications of catheterization were hemodialysis (55.3%) and shock state (24.6%). The mean angles of needle insertion were 102.15±6.80 for axial plane, 36.21±3.12 for sagittal plane and the mean head rotation angle was 40.49±5.09.Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study it seems that CV line insertion under the angles 102.15±6.80 degrees in the axial plane, 36.21±3.12 in the sagittal plane and 40.49±5.09 head rotation yield satisfactory results.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Ophthalmological complications in transplanted patients are often due to underlying disorders or drug use and consists anterior segment and posterior segment complications that central serous chorioretinopathy among the posterior complications is related to high dose steroid, stress or cyclosporine and usually has a good outcome. In this paper, we report a case with CSCR as an ophthalmologic complication of renal transplantation.CASE: A 36-year-old man hospitalized for treatment of rejection, suffered from severe visual loss in both eyes that after exam and fluorescin angiography CSCR (due to high dose steroid use for rejection) was diagnosed. With tapering of the drug and after about 3 months, visual acuity became normal.CONCLUSION: Visual acuity changes must be followed carefully in all transplanted patients but CSCR usually has a good prognosis and after tapering of dose steroid, improvementmay be seen.

Abstract:

One of the most important engineering issues which greatly affects human activities is the Meandering of revers. Accordingly, studying this phenomenon in rivers is essential for accurate identification, identification of the resulting hazards, coping with them and optimal exploitation of natural resources. The purpose of this research is to investigate the characteristics of the riverside runways of the Gadar river route. The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of the riverside meanderings of the Gadar river route. In order to achieve this goal, considering the size of the area under study, the use of satellite imagery and geographic information systems are considered as essential tools for processing. Based on this, satellite imagery ETM + was used for the years 2000 and 2012 and the IRS. The results showed that during the two surveys, the trend of river changes in the triple intervals is completely different. So that the first interval is the highest and the third is the least change over the two periods. The values of the central angle and the bending coefficient also indicate that, in all the intervals, the variation of the bending coefficient and the central angle, with the exception of a relatively small proportion in the mountainous regions, confirms the existence of roughly similar arcs along the path.

Abstract:

The Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI), which uses hydrometeorological variables to solve a simple water balance equation in the soil and considers the drought or wet conditions as dynamic phenomena, is used for the assessment of drought conditions in many parts of the world. The main goal of this study was to assess the PDSI based on its original assumptions, its regionalized status, using the outputs of already calibrated and validated SWAT model in central regions of Iran. The PDSI was assessed through five methods: 1) original Palmer Index without calibration in which the climate coefficients and the severity equation were derived for Kansas and central Iowa; 2) original Palmer Index in which the coefficients of severity equations were adjusted; 3) the Palmer Index with the calibration of equations in central areas of Iran; 4) the Palmer Index using the soil moisture and potential evapotranspiration from SWAT model; and 5) the Palmer Index using the soil moisture, potential evapotranspiration and runoff from SWAT model. The evaluation was conducted for 17 major basins covering the entire country with a monthly time step for the period 1990-2002. Then, using all five methods, the severity of the drought for 160 sub basins located in central Iran was calculated and evaluated. The results of this study indicated that method 4 provides more acceptable results. Also, the results of this research showed these methods clearly demonstrated (1992) as the wettest year and (2001) as the driest year. The approach used in this study is applicable to regional calibration of Palmer Index and the outputs of other hydrological models.
